Windsor Riverfest

June 17, 2023

Windsor Riverfest is a free admission celebration of Northeastern North Carolina's natural beauty, culture, and people that will take place on June 17th, 2023, from 12 pm to 8 pm at the Roanoke/Cashie River Center. This festival promises a day filled with activities for all ages, including food trucks, art vendors, live music, free boat rides, interactive exhibits, workshops, and a farmers' market. Come and discover the unique features of the region while enjoying the festivities at the Windsor Riverfest.

All-Day Bluegrass Jam

We partnered with the Tidewater Bluegrass Association to have an all-day jam on our boardwalk amphitheater! Bring your own instruments and join in! Come enjoy river views and traditional tunes!

Taking the Porch Stage at 6:00 pm, The Mighty Saints of Soul is an upbeat funk and rock band with Randy Hignite on the keys and lead vocals, Jim Heidenreich on the drums and lead vocals, Danny Garner on the guitar and lead vocals, and Bob Hale on the bass and vocals.

Lime and the Corn is the food truck for Super Mercado El Rancho in Greenville, NC! Serving some of the best tacos in North Carolina check them out all day!

Windsor Local! Y'all Eat Yet is a Southern food truck offering regional & seasonal fare! The BBQ-Loaded Trailer Fries are a River Center favorite! 

Ghost Harbor located in Historic Pailin's Alley was Elizabeth City's first Microbrewery! They'll be with us all day serving some great beer so be sure to grab a drink and check out the booths!

Work shops

1:00pm - Beekeeping

Learn the basics of beekeeping in this workshop led by an experienced beekeeper. Discover how to set up a hive, care for your bees, and harvest honey. Perfect for beginners or experienced beekeepers looking to refresh their knowledge. Get hands-on experience and learn valuable techniques for maintaining healthy hives. 

2:00pm - Scientific Illustrations

Juliana Spahr is a professional scientific illustrator with a master's degree in scientific illustration from Maastricht University and Zuyd University. Juliana specializes in creating infographics about threatened animal species from around the world.  Her illustrations are found in science centers across the country, and published in places such as The Journal of Comparative Biology, Frontiers in Zoology, documentaries, Public Radio, botanical gardens, and universities around the world.
Juliana will be speaking about how and why she became a scientific illustrator, some of her favorite projects, and some of the most challenging parts of her job.

3:00 pm - Pen turning with "Pokey"

Woodturner Jerry "Pokey" Byrun will guide participants through the basics of pen and bowl turning. Participants will learn how to use a lathe, how to select and prepare wood, and how to create beautiful pens and bowls using simple techniques. With Pokey's guidance, participants will be able to create their own custom pens and bowls. This workshop is perfect for anyone who is interested in learning the art of woodturning, whether they are a beginner or an experienced woodworker looking to expand their skills.

Native plants will be for sale all day provided by Above the Briery! Above the Briery is a small native plant nursery devoted to cultivating vibrant and resilient natural systems.

The Windsor Farmers Market is a beautiful home of locally farmed produce and local artisans & makers. Hours are TBD

Fishing License Waiver

As part of National Fishing and Boating Week, the Windsor Riverfest will be allowed to have license-free fishing on-site in the Cashie River from 12 - 5. If interested find Riverfest staff on the day of the event to be given information!

Boat Rides

The Roanoke/Cashie River Center's pontoon boat and the North Carolina State Parks' big canoes will be taking people on free rides in the afternoon! Find more information on our Facebook closer to the event!

Partnership for the Sounds

Partnership for the Sounds is dedicated to celebrating the nature and culture of the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula. We share the history of this unique region through our environmental education facilities, with the goal of inspiring all our visitors to cherish everything that eastern North Carolina has to offer.

The Partnership, in conjunction with The Town of Windsor, Bertie Chamber of Commerce, and Bertie County Arts Council is proud to sponsor the Windsor Riverfest: An Earth and Arts Festival. We hope this event helps others discover the same thing that we have. That Windsor and all of Northeastern North Carolina is a place of natural beauty, adventure, art, culture, history, and peace for all to cherish and enjoy.
